UNDB -- Newspapers on Microform at UGA

Some Notes About the Unified Newspaper Database (UNDB)

The UNDB is a basic list of newspapers that are held at the UGA Libraries on microform. The list provides the following information about each title, if known:
Title
Call Number
Place of Publication (city, county, state/province, & country)
Years for which we own issues

The UNDB is a departure from past efforts. In terms of content, the UNDB is not limited to discrete sets or collections, such as Georgia newspapers, or African-American newspapers, but contains information about ALL newspaper titles that we own on microform.    A great deal of effort went into finding out what is owned and coaxing out of various sources some information about each title.   Often, this required that someone look at the microform and make a list.

In addition to Georgia Newspapers, the UNDB contains information about our holdings of:
National Newspapers (such as Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, and New York Times)
      International Newspapers
(such as London Times, Globe & Mail, and Le Monde)
      Underground Newspapers
(such as Berkeley Barb, Aquarian Arts Weekly, and Great Speckled Bird)
      African-American Newspapers
(such as Afro-American, Richmond Planet, and Atlanta Daily World)
      Native American Newspapers
(such as Navajo Times, Cherokee One Feather, and Jicarilla Chieftain)
      School Newspapers
(such as Red & Black, Columbus Saber, and George-Anne)
      Military Newspapers
(such as Bragg Briefs, 124th Infantry Alligator, and Stars & Stripes)
      Revolutionary War/Colonial Newspapers
(such as Pennsylvania Gazette, Massachusetts Spy, and Maryland Gazette)
